ayumi hamasaki - Love songs (microSD+USB+DVD - Limited edition)

AND IT’S FINALLY HERE!! “Love songs”~

*watching the DVD right now while I’m blogging this entry*

I say, this has to be the biggest packaging ever (not including Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus because the CD is inside)~ It’s really really gorgeous, this album!

Anyway, some background about “Love songs”. It’s ayumi hamasaki’s 12th studio album and her second album of year 2010! Uncommon much? But who’s complaining? This album is as solid as Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus in my opinion, with pretty strong songs like “Love songs”, “do it again”, etc…

And of course, she released her album in various versions and this time, she released Love songs in 3 different jackets (CD+DVD, CD-only, microSD+USB+DVD). And guess which one I’m going to show here~ :D

TA DA!! I got the microSD+USB+DVD version, which is *shameless~* the limited edition version! Look at ayumi struggling inside that bubble wrap! Imma save you, ayu!

The album came in this vinyl sized box with her big gorgeous face across it. I prefer the CD+DVD cover though but this is not bad too. Love the color choices actually; very soft, romantic, mysterious (like “I’m going to tell you a secret about my desired love life”) kinda feel.

The sticker on the plastic cover.

In case you want a comparison on how big and marvelous the album is, it’s about 4 times the size of a regular CD casing. It’s really good to hold in your hands too~ Furthermore, the quality is good; I almost mistaken the material as plastic.

The obi’s details… Yes, it comes with an obi…

And how ridiculously big the obi actually is. Actually, when I first saw the album, I laughed a little because I never expected it to come with an obi because of it’s huge size but it still did~ Perhaps because the obi holds lots of “vital” information though I doubt people actually go through it.

And the back of the album. I had a really hard time trying to get a picture with the correct color but eventually, I managed to! Those flowers kinda remind me of the flowers you see on our overhead bridges in Singapore. In fact, on closer inspection, they are; OVERHEAD BRIDGE FLOWERS!!

The track list. This album contains 16 tracks (including the bonus track, SEVEN DAYS WAR’s live version), featuring the singles “MOON/blossom”, “crossroad” and “L”, all fantastic singles, may I add~

This is how the album looks like when you lift up the flap. You’re greeted with ayu smiling sweetly at you as though she’s saying “Thanks for buying me!!” On the left, you see the lyrics booklet slotted there and on the right, you see ayu’s beautiful face.

The lyric booklet. I love the motif at the back~

*GOES GAGA!!*

So here are the contents of the album; the microSD on the top left, the USB on the top right and the DVD (if you cannot recognize it, you should come out from your cave). Each media device stores different stuff and I shall elaborate it soon.

First of all, the microSD. Unfortunately, the contents can only be accessed by using a Japanese phone. It contains all the tracks and PVs from this album. So, I suppose if you are in Japan, you can just slot this card into your cell and immediately enjoy her album. How handy~ Did you notice that the casing of the SD card is like that of a CD+DVD casing? Cool eh?

The microSD’s back… I forgot to take a shot of the front of the microSD card itself. Basically, it says “Love songs”. WOW!! Obvious, no?

The USB device! Actually, when her album was announced for this format, I was thinking that the USB will be something as elegant as the NEXT LEVEL’s one but I was wrong. Honestly, I’m slightly disappointed but I’ll live… This USB stick reminds me of chocolate though~

The USB when you remove the cap. At least they put ayu’s A on it… O YES!! Did I mention that when I first opened the album, I swear I smell something sweet coming from it. I wonder if they did something to the album to make it smell like chocolate (maybe it’s the USB) but it really smells like strawberry flavored chocolate~

Anyway, the USB contains the tracks of the album in WAV format (lossless audio format), which basically translate to the best quality ever! (at least that’s what I understand). The whole album weighs a whooping 1.19GB!! That’s almost 12 times the size of a regular mp3 album! Each songs weigh around 70 - 90MB, if you want to know. However, I feel that without good audio technologies (like a good headphone or speaker), chances are you won’t spot the difference. But psychologically, you will feel that the WAV is definitely better.

Moving on… The album also comes with a photo booklet that’s also supersized. It’s almost like a calendar just that there are no dates inside.

Some of the gorgeous photos inside the book… As opposed to Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus, I feel the artistic direction of this album is for a soft, feminine side of ayu. All the photos are feminine, hopeful and of course, BEAUTIFUL!

More ayu!! I love that fountain, by the way…

And moving on to the lyric booklet. They used the album art for the CD+DVD version as the lyric booklet and I though that’s a good move because I find that version’s cover the nicest.

The lyric booklet is also filled with gorgeous photos~ In this one, you can see ayu’s tattoo. I’m not a big fond of tattoos but somehow, this tattoo made the whole picture feel complete…

Now that’s what I call a lyric booklet y’all! A booklet with lyrics inside! Unlike some artistes’ booklets that just contain words that no one will actually read.

And that’s the last picture I have for this post. Overall, I find this album solid (come on~ Which ayu album isn’t right? :P) because it’s a different feel altogether. Unlike her previous albums, this album focuses more on ballads and is less experimental. There is a couple of rockish songs and they are good too.

I love this album! It’s the fantastic Christmas present from ayu (even though I have to pay…) and it compliments the previous album really well; Rock + Ballads. 2010 is definitely a good year for ayu~

頑張って、あゆちゃん~~ :D

Beyoncé - I am… Sasha Fierce (Platinum Edition)

“All the single ladies!! All the single ladies!!”

Okay. I know this is a really weird time to be posting this album because this album was released like in 2008 (2 years ago?) but it had never occurred to me that I will get this album anyway.

Well, the reason why I decided to get Beyoncé’s “I am… Sasha Fierce” is because yesterday, I was watching “Alvin and the Chipmunks 2” and the Chipettes were singing “Single ladies” and it was so ADORABLE!!

So I decided to get this album. :P

Well, if that’s not a good enough reason, Beyoncé is gorgeous! Not to mention, she looks a bit like Tyra Banks~ And she had performed on the Tyra Banks Show before as well!

Anyway, one more album into my collection isn’t going to do much harm now, would it?

I was lucky to find the Platinum Edition at Hougang Mall; the worst place to shop for CDs after Sembawang Music Centre went under. Was unable to find it yesterday at Causeway Point but at least I didn’t give up! From my understanding, this album’s regular edition comes in 2 CDs but the Platinum Edition comes in a single CD (20 tracks) plus a DVD~ Lucky!!

Well, it’s a pity that this picture isn’t used as the cover because it’s so much more fierce!! Nice use of colors as well~ I was never a huge fan of Beyoncé for all sorts of reasons (e.g. Because I don’t really listen to the radio for new songs, I don’t catch up with the English music industry, etc). But that’s not to say I don’t know she didn’t exist~

More gorgeous Beyoncés!! I think another influencing factor to make me buy this album is because Ying Ying used to sing “If I were a Man” at K-box and I found the lyrics and melody captivating, though it was not enough to make me buy the album. But eventually, I still did because until today, the song is still beautiful.

The lyric booklet is filled with more pictures of this fierce woman. Unlike some of singers, Beyoncé features some of her lyrics in her lyric booklet (HEY! That’s the main purpose of the booklet, no?) though not all the lyrics are inside. I suppose those songs which make more sense have their lyrics featured. So that means that “Single Ladies” is quite a “brainless” but nice song? :)

In case you want to know how my growing collection looks like so far, it actually still looks the same, just that I’ve had to cramp even more stuff, like stacking CDs over DVDs, in between to maximize the space. The arrangement is all over the place though because I haven’t got time to reorganize everything. Come October, I might do a full photoshoot of all my CDs all over again!

Sampling “I am… Sasha Fierce” right now and I actually like it so far. The vocals of Beyoncé is known to be one of the strongest and this album really proves that to me. This proves to be a good buy~ Maybe if I have the time after blogging this entry, I shall watch the DVD.

Going back to camp later at night at around 7:55pm. Hopefully next week won’t be torturous because I really want to recover from my cold/flu because falling ill now is just terribly inconvenience since remedial training is about to start. I don’t want to sacrifice my Saturday mornings to training!! :(

Just have to walk this portion of the runway of life fiercely…~ :)

ayumi hamasaki - Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus SPECIAL LIMITED BOX SET

YES! After waiting for so long, my Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus Special Limited Box Set arrived today! I was expecting it to arrive somewhere in the late afternoon but when I woke up, I saw this rather ugly khaki box on my table and I knew that the beautiful box set is inside!

So excited!

Are you ready to unwrap my late birthday present with me? :)

This is the ugly box that I was talking about. I must say, this is the BIGGEST parcel I have ever received in my life and probably the biggest box set I’ve ever seen from any artiste! All the mailing documentations (Oh no! I just realized I threw them into the bin with the ugly wrapper ~goes to retrieve them~) are on the wrapper itself.

And of course, they have to protect my precious box set with this cardboard box. BUT~ It’s not just any other cardboard box when…

… it actually has the album name and ayumi’s name printed on it! I suppose this is for shipping purposes because I don’t think they will sell the cardboard box in stores. That’s not appealing, is it?

AVCD-38104 means Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus!!

Ta da! My 20th birthday present that I bought for myself! The red stripes make it looks even more like a present, no? All the goodies are well protected beneath the white foam sheet.

You don’t really have to understand Japanese to know what this label says. This label appears on most of ayumi’s singles/albums and basically informs about where some of the tracks are being featured on (e.g. movies, commercials, drama series, etc) and other beautiful stuff.

This is how it looks like when you remove the white foam sheet and this is what you typically see online when they were promoting this box set. It comes with the album, of course, as well as her NEXT LEVEL Arena Tour DVD, an exquisite mug and a tin of red tea!

The side is printed with the album’s name…

Naturally, the back is printed with all the tracks which are included in the album, as well as the DVDs. Lucky for them, there’s lots of space for them to put these information on it because the box is SO BIG!

I had never ever owned my own mug before and this will be my very first! I have yet to drink from it because it’s still on my table. And yes, that’s the tin that stores the red tea~ Once the tea is finished, you can have the tin to keep everything else nice and random.

The other sides of the mug and tea tin. GORGEOUS, no?!

Ayumi’s classic ‘A’ on the top of the tea tin.

Inside the tea tin is a packet of tea. I have no idea how the tea tastes like because I have yet to try it. I hope it’s nice though. What I do not like is that they forgot to include instructions on how to brew the tea; e.g. how much tea leaves to use, assuming they are using tea leaves and not sachets.

ayumi hamasaki ARENA TOUR 2009 A ~NEXT LEVEL~ DVD! So convenient of them to just package the whole thing together so I don’t have to wait in Singapore for the DVD to be released. It normally takes a couple of weeks before the Code 2 is Code 3-ed. Rather disappointed with the cover though but I like that look on ayumi!

The back looks like this! Nothing much to it besides the colors.

This side looks like this! Again, I’m not a big fan of the ‘A’ logo of the NEXT LEVEL tour, not because it’s ugly, but there’s no “WOW” to it. I wonder if it’s the color choices…

When you remove the plastic sleeve of the DVD box set, you get 2 separate DVD casings. Okay, I think the main cover of the DVD looks better without the plastic sleeve. What do you think? The second DVD casing looks pretty good, I think.

The DVDs are colorful, no? Other than the black one… But the DVD labels are really interesting; vinyl-inspired! And that’s the booklet inside the DVD casing. This is the first Code 2 DVD that I have of ayumi’s concert and it doesn’t come along with the thick translation booklet that comes with the Code 3 versions. I don’t read that anyway~

This is how the inside of the DVD’s lyric booklet looks like; filled with colorful pictures as usual.

I just have to post this picture because it’s like my favorite act of the entire concert! I believe I posted a footage of it here some time back. Her look is so funny and her performance was really entertaining and humorous. Not to mention, she forgot her lyrics a little~ One of those classic ayu moments! :P

Now, let’s move on to the album itself; Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus!!

The first press of the album comes with a 36 pages (I believe it’s 36 pages) full colored, glossy photo book! Just like what she did with her GUILTY album!

If you haven’t seen this gorgeous album cover yet, you must be living in some cave! I’m listening to the album while updating this blog right now and I must say, the whole album is actually quite good!

The back of the case is a bit of a mess though. Ayumi went to London to do her photo shoot for the booklet and other promotional works of this album and I don’t believe that there isn’t a good enough shot to be used at the back, no? The empty space is not well utilized in my opinion.

Though the discs look rather plain, I actually thought it looks okay though. O yes~ As opposed to the photo booklet, the lyric booklet comes in a matte finish while the photo booklet is a glossy little book.

The lyrics~ All the titles of the tracks are handwritten by ayumi and imposed into this lyric booklet! Nice personal touch! Her “RED LINE ~for TA~ (album version)“‘s lyrics were fully handwritten though.

One of the pages from her lyric booklet. I was confused for a moment while writing this entry because the pictures from the photo and lyric booklets were so similar. Okay, what am I talking about~ They are taken in the same location and same time so they are technically the same! This photo booth shoot reminds me of one of the photo shoots from America’s Next Top Model.

This is the photo booklet! That’s the look that is on the CD-only version of the album. I really like the direction of the whole photo shoot. The lighting is really interesting and portrays an edgy feel to the whole shoot even though ayumi’s cute all over~

I await the day when I get my DSLR and it will be my turn to take these magnificent shots, but in Singapore. Sounds like fun already!!

Okay~ That’s all the pictures I have for this entry! Thanks for unwrapping my present with me! :) Don’t be hating me because I got such a great album to listen to, yes? :P If you want, go right ahead and buy the album! It’s really worth the money because the tracks are good!! Not to mention, the packaging is good too!!

ayumi hamasaki - You were…/BALLAD (Jacket A) + Koda Kumi - BEST ~third universe~ & 8th AL”UNIVERSE”

It’s been ages since I bought CDs! The last one that I’ve blogged about was ayumi hamasaki’s “You were…/BALLAD”.

Wait, I’m blogging about “You were…/BALLAD” again today because I’ve got my hands on Jacket A (CD+DVD)! Apparently it packs some different stuff, besides the DVD, as compared to the CD-only version.

Besides “You were/BALLAD”, I finally got Koda Kumi’s latest compilation which is packed together with her 8th album, “BEST ~third universe~ & 8th AL”UNIVERSE”! Had been looking forward to this album a lot because it’s packed with fantastic songs!

Now~ The pictures!

ayumi hamasaki - You were…/BALLAD (Jacket A)

Well, anyone with common sense should know this is the cover. And I managed to get rid of that pathetic PG sticker! It’s such an eyesore on the beautiful cover. At least they were kind enough to stick part of the PG sticker on the obi so that it makes my life easier when I want to get rid of it. Gorgeous isn’t she? This is my favorite cover out of the 3 jackets.

It comes with the First press card placed at the back, under the obi. The color is slightly different from the CD-only version but not very obvious.

TA DA~ Don’t you just adore her?

This is what you see when you open the cover; the CD on the left and the lyrics booklet on the right. Not much of a difference when compared with the CD-only version but this version has 1 track lesser. Who cares~ I already have all the tracks~ :P

The DVD that holds the beautiful PVs of “You were…” and “BALLAD” as well as the making clip of “You were…” The making clip is a bit too short though and I couldn’t really see much of what was happening as well because it was so static and dry. The PVs are fantastic though.

You were…/BALLAD Jackets A and C.

See what I mean when I said there was a slight difference in color? The light blue one belongs to Jacket A while the gray one belongs to Jacket C. I wonder if Jacket B holds a different card…

The pictures are obviously different. The dimension of the cards are different too to cater to the CD casing.

I say Jacket A’s lyric booklet looks better than Jacket C’s one. Those nails are nice~

I realized that I had a problem when I wanted to keep the card; it won’t fit inside the casing because it’s measured to be the size of the outside of the casing, not the inside…

Therefore, I had to put it under the holder of the DVD and now, my Jacket A has 2 different covers! :D Problem solved!

Koda Kumi - BEST ~third universe~ & 8th AL”UNIVERSE”

This is the cover with the obi on the left. If you have her previous BEST compilation album, you’ll realize that this cover shares an uncanny similarity to the previous cover. And if you look closely, you can actually see the cover on this cover. Spot it!

This compilation “BEST ~third universe~” basically spans across her albums “Black Cherry”, “KINGDOM” and “TRICK” and needless to say, holds some of those great songs. For the full track list, visit her official website by clicking on the button on the right of this blog (I hope you’ve noticed it! I spent a great deal of time getting those up!)

Her 8th album, titled “UNIVERSE”, features some of her singles after “TRICK”, which includes “It’s all Love!”, “3 SPLASH”, “Physical thing / Alive” and “Can We Go Back”, all four of them pretty strong singles so it’s definitely worth the buy.

I haven’t really listened to the album yet but I believe with the great track list and the fantastic singles to support it, the album should be good. It better be good because I have high expectations. After all, “TRICK” was such a kick-ass marvelous album!

The back of the album. The version I bought comes with 2 CDs (one of which is her BEST collection and the other is her “UNIVERSE” album) and the DVD (which features PVs of both discs). There are also the 2 CD version and the CD+DVD version. For more information, click on the link on the right of my blog!

When you open the cover, you’re greeted with this pink BEST CD as well as Koda Kumi, smiling at you. Slightly freaky but… :S

On the other side, you see this baby blue DVD with a fierce looking Koda Kumi. I prefer this look better. :P

Fierce and cute lyric booklets.

The lyric booklet has 2 sides to it with the same look but different pose. I still like the fierce version. Anyway, the cute version holds the lyrics of the BEST portion of this album while the fierce version holds the lyrics of the new album “UNIVERSE”.

The first page of both lyric booklets. Nice eh?

What’s behind the BEST CD…

What’s behind the DVD…

And besides the great music that you’re purchasing, you get good packaging with fierce photos~ :D Can’t wait to listen to this album and to watch the DVD~

Well, that’s all for today. Hopefully, I can get my hands on AAA’s new album “HEARTFUL” as well as F.I.R’s new album “讓我們一起微笑吧 (Let’s smile)” one day. Until then~

Namie Amuro - Past < Future

Today, I got my first Christmas present from someone really important! And it’s the best Christmas present for me because it’s exactly what I wanted (my hint was extremely big when I took it immediately off the shelf at HMV but…)

I GOT NAMIE’s NEW ALBUM Y’ALL! Happiness~

2 years after her “PLAY” album, Namie Amuro released “Past < Future”, her seventh studio album and it’s packaged like the “BEST FICTION” compilation with those sleeves but with some differences (duh~) Really interesting concept, this album. “Past < Future” was released officially in Japan on December 16. It’s considered quite fast that it’s reached Singapore already.

How the cover looks like! I couldn’t wait to get home to open it so I opened it in the train~ :P Was really curious to know what’s inside.

Without the wrapper~ It comes in this Matt finish cardboard sleeve with the CD and DVD along with the lyrics booklet sandwiched in between.

Stupid PG sticker vandalized the back of the album AGAIN! When will the censorship board learn?! I didn’t want to remove the sticker for fear that I might ruin the original packaging so… it’s there to stay sadly.

When you open the cover, you see Namie’s face inside, tearing up her “BEST FICTION” promotional picture into half. She said that this album will represent a brand new Namie and that might be a symbolic representation to that. Hopefully she will become better and release albums more frequently. It’s pretty sickening to have to wait so long~ :P

And when you turn the picture of Namie over, you see lots of prints that looked almost like it can be a texture of any designer handbags. Inside, the lyric booklet is sandwiched between the two flaps.

The CD and DVD revealed~ Ta da!!

The lyric booklet is almost like those old flip book animation thingies~ You see Namie holding the picture and tearing it more and more as you progress through the booklet. Actually, if you flip the pages fast enough, you will see the animation but I didn’t do it because I want to keep the booklet intact. :) Really interesting concept no?

Now, for the track list which I believe I have not posted it here before…

1.  FAST CAR
2.  COPY THAT
3.  LOVE GAME
4.  Bad Habit
5.  Steal my Night
6.  FIRST TIMER feat. DOBERMAN INC
7.  WILD
8.  Dr.
9.  Shut Up
10. MY LOVE
11. The Meaning of Us
12. Defend Love

I’m done listening to this album and I must say it’s pretty impressive! There was only 1 single released prior to this album, “Dr./WILD”, but it’s a really solid album. Some of my favorites would be “FAST CAR”, “Dr.” and “The Meaning of Us”. In fact, the reason why I want this album so badly is because “The Meaning of Us” is a ballad to die for! :P

Apparently, I saw on some forums, that this album is titled “Past < Future” because of the songs “Dr.” and “Defend Love”. If you watch the PV (hopefully on the DVD and not elsewhere… :P), you will understand why. The structures of this 2 songs are really unique and it takes awhile to get used to.

The rest of the songs are stylish and Namie-ish, if you get what I mean. Fans won’t be disappointed. I myself am not a huge Namie fan but I like her music. It’s something special in my whole playlist of songs and definitely worth it!

Thanks so much for this wonderful Christmas present!
I love it a lot~ :)
I will love anything that you give me… :)

Do As Infinity - ETERNAL FLAME

YEAH! Before I went online to buy my copy, I saw a copy of Do As Infinity’s “ETERNAL FLAME” for sale at HMV Citylink Mall! (Stupid Somerset branch said they don’t have it already; and they said they only import the Japan press when the one I found was the Taiwan press!)

HAPPINESS!

~now know why I said that going to Suntec / Marina Square was fruitful —- click here for the post~

I told myself that I will support Do As Infinity when they reband and I kept to my promise! :) They have really great songs and I’m contemplating whether or not to get their new single “君がいない未来” because that song is great! And it’s featured on Inuyasha. I don’t watch Inuyasha but I like that song~

Probably will do an update when a better resolution album art is released.

Oh yes~ Did I mention that Koda Kumi is going to release a new compilation album due to release on 2010.02.03, titled “BEST ~third universe~ & 8th AL “UNIVERSE”” That’s a pretty long name but when I get the higher resolution pictures, I shall post them~ :) Another must buy album!

Now, for ETERNAL FLAME… Originally released on September 30, 2009 in Japan and the seventh studio album by Do As Infinity, this album marks the band’s 10th anniversary! Woo hoo! How come there are so many artists celebrating their 10th anniversaries recently, like ayumi hamasaki (last year) and Britney Spears (this year)…

Moving on…

I got it at a good price of $23.95! When I saw it on the shelf, I grabbed it immediately without even looking further because I know very well that I WANT THIS! Well, one of the ballads, namely “ナイター”, was the motivating factor for me to get this album. Plus, it’s the first press version (just that it’s a Taiwan press). The DVD has more content I think…

Taiwan Press singles normally feature a really huge obi for the sake of the Taiwanese who cannot read Japanese. Odd though, since the Hong Kong press normally resembles the Japanese press really closely, including the obi size, but the Hong Kong people (majority) can’t read Japanese too.

Well, did you notice the missing PG sticker? YES! I removed it! And it was pretty easy to remove using a simple technique~ Maybe that would be another blog entry… :P

The cover art is simple and straight forward, though I must say the composition is a bit funny. Why aren’t the artists themselves featured on the cover? Weird weird weird~

The obi flooded with Chinese words… Well, at least it’s better than the China press which adds some other logos and ridiculous stickers which are impossible to remove since they are normally stuck on the lyrics insert. Damn annoying!

How the album looks like; the back and the front. Well, at least the artists (until today, I’m not very sure of their names… Van, is it?) are featured somewhere~

The inside! Here, you see the lyric booklet with Tomiko Van and Ryo Owatari (okay, I cheated, I referred to the lyrics booklet for their names. I shall make it a point to remember their names. Van and Ryo… How difficult is that?) The orange disc is the DVD that comes along with this album, featuring some of their PVs and a documentary. I might watch it later…

The CD as well as the back of the lyrics booklet. This is definitely not the most interesting album in terms of visuals but hey, it’s Do As Infinity! Their music had always been good so who cares about the album’s art! There are some kick ass pictures inside the booklet so that makes it up!

Hmmm… So this 12 track album…

1.  ETERNAL FLAME
2.  最後のGAME
3.  Perfect World
4.  名もなき革命
5.  ナイター
6.  Feelin’ The Light
7.  メラメラ
8.  Piece Of Your Heart
9.  北風
10. his hometown
11. 焔
12. 生まれゆくものたちへ

I’ve listened to it for awhile and yes, it’s Do As Infinity alright. The style remains and I’m still waiting for the songs to grow on me. At least there’s a good ballad (ナイター) in it that makes the album worth buying for me…

ETERNAL FLAME is actually quite a nice English song that they did. Though the pronunciation isn’t that spot on, the lyric is quite meaningful. The vocal is interesting too.

I shall listen to it once again when I have the time~ :D

By the way, why no giant poster?!

But never mind~ They are Do As Infinity! They don’t need giant posters to draw me in!

Yes, they are that good… :)
