BEST OF 2010
And here we are in a brand new year!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR Y’ALL!!
Well today, I have to book in again and that kinda sucks. But I think I’ve fully utilized my one week break doing everything that I like and I really enjoyed myself very much. I wonder when will I get another break this long for me to relax and rest…
Oh well. All good things come to an end but there will always be better things in the future, yes? Which includes doing sentry duty (though not confirmed but highly possible for tomorrow)… That’s sucky but oh well… Let’s bear till next year and I’ll be out from hell!
I’m not someone who makes new year resolutions because I don’t want to be tied down by these commitments. However, I feel that they actually give me something to think about and maybe, I said maybe, at the end of typing this entry, I might be inspired to do a short resolution or some sort.
But anyway, compiled in this entry is all the BEST OF moments of year 2010; or at least whatever I can find from my archives because you know, my hard disk died and there goes everything else. Good thing my blog still has some of my stuff!!
So~ HERE WE GO!!
BEST OF JANUARY

Remember Sophie Sophihaheho? I kinda miss her!! If you don’t know, she is one of my first creations when I was in DGDD (Games design and development) and she basically brought me through the second half of year 1. Last year around this time, she appeared on my blog to ask about YOUR new year wishes. So, did they come true in year 2010? :)

And in January, we welcomed the arrival of my new toy family member, MAOMAO!! My beloved kitty cat~ When he first arrived, he was only 4 weeks old (or around there, I can’t remember) and he has to be fed kitty milk formula by hand because he left his mom too early. I played the surrogate mother by feeding him and now, he’s a big, terrorizing boy!
BEST OF FEBRUARY

During the first few months of year 2010, I was still schooling at Singapore Polytechnic and I will, of course, blog about my school work and bitch about lecturers. Here’s one of my educational flash game’s art assets! I hate to say this but I kinda miss working on games because making games is so much more fun than being in the army, don’t you think?

CHINESE NEW YEAR!! Just like the previous years, and hopefully this year, I always go visiting with my siblings and cousins and we will always go to the playground nearby my grandma’s house to do our annual photo shoot to show off our clothes. At that moment, I was still using my Panasonic Lumix-48 so the pictures were not splendid. And notice I still have hair? :P

February was also the month where we started to wrap up whatever projects we were doing and here are MY FATTIES! This gang (and more, sadly not included in this picture), saw me through poly life and they are such wonderful friends to have! Took this picture after our final critique for our 3D game, JAMBOREE. Ah~~~ Schooling life is fun!!

And yet another game production… JAMBOREE!! The game based on a gingerbread man that we baked from scratch! A proud child of LIMIT.
BEST OF MARCH

And March came along… March marked the School of Design’s Graduation Show and my classmates and I were all part of this huge display of talents (well, some are talented, some are just plain embarrassing). I displayed my works up for the world to see at Suntec and strut on my very first catwalk show (which I shamelessly stole the show from by being a drag and spinning my sai but who can blame me for being bold! :P)
Throughout the preparation of the gradshow and the show itself, I met lots of new friends and had tons of fun. Even though being the one in charged (meaning I had to get my “models” ready for the catwalk, coordinating logistics and stuff) was pretty stressful and sometimes hair-pulling frustrating, it was still enjoyable because of my bunch of friends.

Maomao went to the vet for the very first time for his first vaccination!! And it’s also my first time bringing kitty out of the house for a prolong period of time. Along with me were Sheena and Laura and their little ferocious dog, Qiqi~ If you think bringing an animal out into the public was easy, you should try one day! It’s as bad as trying to calm a baby who lost his candy!! Let’s see if we will be doing it again this year.

And how can I forget about my best pal, Chua Ying Ying, who treated me to the best sushi and sashimi that I had ever savored in my entire life?! As an early birthday treat, we went out to sing K and after which, we had our dinner at Itacho Sushi. THE BEST SUSHI AND SASHIMI EVER!!!
BEST OF APRIL

APRIL!! The biggest event; my 20th birthday!! This is my first birthday which I received a surprise, the whole of the fatties dropped by my house with a cake totally uninvited. They gave me a really huge surprise because I never saw that coming~ Was really touched and it’s by far, one of my liveliest birthdays ever (since my one year old one, of course). This year, I shall see if I can break the record because it’s going to be my 21st birthday~ We’ll see.

In case you didn’t know, I find all sorts of reasons to get myself CDs and this year, I got ayumi hamasaki’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus Limited Edition album for my birthday! YES!! I paid for it! This is the first limited edition album of ayu that I bought, since I missed out NEXT LEVEL’s one and I’m really happy with this! I’m still using that ayu mug~
BEST OF MAY

GRADUATION CEREMONY! And yes~ After 3 years at Singapore Polytechnic, I graduated with a Diploma in Games Design and Development with MERIT!! I never knew I could do it but I did anyway. At least it shows that my efforts paid off. Besides that, I also graduated with a Certificate in Theatre Productions and Performance! 2 diplomas~ How ‘bout that!! Received this golden medal (my first medal of my life!!) on stage and that feeling was AHHHHHHh!!!

Let me be shameless! :P My face was featured on billboards and SP publications because I was the top student of the cohort. *dance around madly* I think this is one of my greatest achievements so far.
BEST OF JUNE

The harsh reality set in and I received that atrociously dirty orange letter from the government in which by law, I have to donate 2 years of my life to the army and that basically means off with my hair! At that moment, I was still working at Swissotel The Stamford as a runner and my plans were totally ruined by the early arrival of the letter but oh well… What can I do?
And in June, I FINALLY got my new baby; the Canon EOS 550D DSLR CAMERA!! I had been saving up on this camera prior to receiving the nightmarish mail and even though it came, I still went ahead to buy it because I know I will definitely make good use of it and yes, I did! I only had a week to learn it though but look, I’m really comfortable with it right now~
The day came and I went into the army, to BMTC School 4, 4th Company and honestly, it wasn’t as bad as I thought. In fact, I think 4th coy is going to be my best memories of the army ever because of all my buddies, terrific sergeants and PC. Given a choice, I rather serve all 2 years over there!

And after being confined for almost 3 weeks in Pulau Tekong, I was set free and I spent my first weekend watching my first proper 3D film, Toy Story 3! I’m still in love with the movie because of it’s bittersweet ending. If you haven’t watched it, SHAME ON YOU!!
BEST OF JULY

With my freedom snatched away from right under my nose, I had lesser time to blog, lesser time to take photos and even lesser time to go out and meet new people. Fortunately, one of my platoon mates, Daniel, is a friend of Alvin and so, I got to meet my new friends (Daniel and gang). :D Now and then, I would go out with them and be their personal photographer. The photo above is one of the very first ones I photographed of them.
BEST OF AUGUST

If I didn’t remember wrongly, August was the field camp month and it marks my first time sleeping in the forest without bathing for an entire week! Talk about mud, sweat, dirt and whatnots. I think the field camp really made everyone immune to the conventional “dirty”. On one of the days of field camp, I received one of the thickest envelops containing letters from all my loved ones! Touched!! Thanks to Vera for getting the rest of them to write me mail~

August… I went out to catch up with my poly mates and we had steamboat at Vivocity before taking lots of funny pictures at the rooftop garden. Hopefully in year 2011, we will get more opportunities to meet up and play~ Sing K anyone? :P
BEST OF SEPTEMBER

September was the first time I met my new nephew, Javen!! My family was invited to my aunt’s condominium to have lunch and to meet the new addition to the family. Look at how happy Javier, my other nephew, is! Somehow, having nephews make me feel really old though…
BEST OF OCTOBER

POP~~ It means Passing Out Parade and it basically means graduation from BMT! For the first time in Singapore history, the POP is held at Marina’s Floating platform and I was honored to be one of the thousand plus soldiers walking that dreadful 24 km to the venue! It was worth it though because as always, I had fabulous company with me.

October was also the birthday of my photoblog nega+ive! The above screen capture is the very first photo I uploaded on the blog, featuring my brother and it was taken at the floating platform~ So convenient, no? :P

AND~ It was also the month where I took this award winning photo of my youngest brother at the POP! I took part in this photography competition which requires contestants to submit photos taken at the POP and this came in top!! Surprise surprise!! This is so going into my portfolio. I won an iPod Nano and a $100 Capitaland voucher, which Vera had YET TO CLAIM! I wonder if it’s still available for collection though, because they did not state a time where we have to collect the prizes by.

And when I thought that the army was going to get better because 4th Coy was so wonderful, I was wrong. I was set to OCS (Offier Cadet School) and though it’s pretty prestigious, honestly, I didn’t like it there because I hate putting on that face as though I really give a damn. I want to be me to please myself, not a “me” to please others. But I did met Jia Yi (DGDD classmate!!) at OCS and that felt so much better. Now that I’ve OOC-ed, in case y’all don’t know, I feel so much better already.
BEST OF NOVEMBER

My blog’s 1st anniversary!! Well, I’ve been blogging since I was in secondary school, jumping from blogspot (which I didn’t really like because of all the weird problems I faced) to MoBlog (which I loved so much but they went under anyway) to tumblr (this current kickass blog!!) I really hope that in year 2011, I will have more time to add contents to this blog to make it lively and not collect dust.
BEST OF DECEMBER

And finally, something more recent; December! For the first time in how many donkey years, I celebrated Christmas and actually got presents (no, I didn’t buy them myself like the previous years… pathetic much?)! Received these space aliens from my bestest friend and they are now by my bed!!

And for something that I actually got for myself… I got Britney’s The Singles Collection Deluxe Edition when I saw it on sale and received it in a few days…

And I also got myself ayumi hamasaki’s Love songs! This album marks the third limited edition album that I got for the year! Hopefully next year, there will be more releases and I will still be able to afford these goodies~ Getting CDs making me happy okay~ :D

I think December was the month I spent the most because I also bought Maomao his belated birthday presents, ranging from food to toys! December also marked my precious cat’s first birthday, making him now an official adult! He still acts like a little kitten begging for attention though but I love him anyway.

Just right after Christmas celebration, I celebrated my dearest cousin’s, Sheena’s, 21st birthday at Costa Sands Resort with the rest of my family! Being 21 means you’re officially an adult so I guess the 21st birthday is pretty important. So, have y’all have any suggestions on how I should celebrate mine this year? :)

And the last highlight of the year… Just a couple of days before 2010 came to an end, I went on a photo shoot with Laura and Yong Xiang and thereafter, posted my debut photo spread “a walk in the parks” on nega+ive. Really proud of myself for accomplishing something outside school that’s project-worthy and I hope viewers like it too. I shall shamelessly promote the album here again~
Visit http://broylim.wordpress.com/2010/12/31/dream-is-starting/ for the album and do leave comments if you wish! I will really appreciate that~
END…
And that’s basically a summary of some of the best moments of year 2010. There were definitely some other great moments as well not featured here but hey, I cannot possibly squeeze a whole year worth of contents into a single post right?
In summary, year 2010 was pretty fruitful because I managed to achieve many things like…
- Having a cat again
- Getting my new camera and actually taking good photos on it
- Still having a life outside army life
- Still having fun
- Still being bold and bitchy!! :D :D :D
Well this year, let’s see… I shall write a short resolution kinda thingie…
1. Get more CDs!
2. Make another photo spread album~
3. Continue being bold and bitchy and myself!!
Yes! This should be pretty easy to fulfill!
Here, I like to wish everyone a splendid year 2011 and no matter what, be true to yourself and heck about what other people expect of you! Just do the best to please yourself, not others!! It’s your life and no legal laws are going to stop you from living it!! :)
